Wish | Character Technical Direction & CFX
wp13408020.jpg
As a full-time Character Technical Director at Walt Disney Animation Studios, I contributed to Wish through character effects, cloth and hair simulation, deformation refinement, technical animation, & final shot polish. My work focused on supporting expressive character performances while balancing the film’s stylized visual language with believable anatomy, material behavior, secondary motion, & clean character silhouettes.

Featured Work Reel
Character cloth and hair simulation, anatomy sculpting, secondary-motion refinement, and technical animation. Specific responsibilities are identified within the reel.
My Contributions
  1. Created and refined cloth and hair simulations for character shots, including shot-specific setup, collision cleanup, secondary-motion adjustments, and final technical animation polish.

  2. Performed deformation refinement and character finaling, sculpting and polishing shot-specific shapes, anatomy, and silhouettes while preserving the intent of the animated performance.

  3. Worked across a range of stylized character designs, costumes, and hairstyles, adapting simulation and technical-animation work to the visual and physical requirements of each shot.

  4. Collaborated closely with animators, character artists, riggers, and technical partners to troubleshoot rigging, deformation, simulation, asset, and shot-specific production challenges.

  5. Supported the character production pipeline through technical troubleshooting, workflow support, and production bug triage across animation and simulation workflows.

Process & Collaboration
My work began with reviewing animated shots and identifying their character-effects, deformation, and technical-animation needs. Depending on the shot, I prepared or adjusted cloth and hair simulation setups, refined secondary motion, sculpted character deformations, and resolved intersections or other shot-specific issues. I iterated closely with animation, character, rigging, and technical partners to preserve the intended performance and visual style while ensuring that character work held up at cinematic quality. Final shots were polished, validated, and prepared for integration into the broader production pipeline.
